Why are men?

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

I mean, it’s kind of like a pair of heels you bought for that dinner next week

You’re more of a sneaker-head so returning it, is definitely being considered

You want to look the part, fit into the ambience, the scene of the restaurant.

You searched for one that matched your outfit, a hot magenta pink

You clicked and added to the basket, you saw another one of a lighter shade

That could be better suited however you remained loyal to the first pair

Oh, you were so excited once that pay button was clicked. You waited, dreaming of how they’d look in your hands, how they’d hug your feet, how they’d comfort you as you stagger out of the restaurant tipsy.

Check out, they came two days later.

Opening it was a treat, unwrapping, unravelling the hidden treasure

And there they are, long-awaited or so it felt

You feel happy, you feel safe, content.

Come the special day, you get various compliments from strangers

"They look so good on you!" "Where did you get them from?"

then you abruptly tumble and hurt your ankle, it’s not serious and you walk it off

but everyone saw you

that moment replays in your head like a record player

and to you, the heels no longer look stunning on your feet anymore

they've disappointed you beyond repair

4 hours later, all you want to do is take them off and put your feet up

But they’re there… staring you down, imploring you put them on one more time.

But for what? You know yourself it's over

You close the lid of the box, fill out that return form and stuff it back into its packaging.

You feel ashamed, dirty, guilty and more

I expect this is how men treat women, like a pair of shoes that they bought with the intention of returning… just a short-term self-pleasure. One mishap that damages their ego, and they’re out of the door.

But when they’re sighted on another pair of more elite, popular feet, the words ‘I’ve owned a pair like that before’ leave their mouth

Why? They’re on someone else now, they’re making someone else’s feet more attractive.

You don’t deserve to claim to have had them before

You don’t deserve to have known them

They meant jack all to you.

So why are you reminiscing?
